I've just read where Glen McGrath is in doubt for the last test.
So now, we're all in for nearly two weeks of "is he in" / "is he out" speculation and press sensationalism and hyperbola.
Given this, I've set a a Glen McGrath-O-Meter. Have your say here. I've set it up to allow multiple votes, should you hear anymore, vote again. In fact, come back daily with your latest thoughts. We'll gauge popular opinion right here, and see if we can call it.

As a cricket fan I hope he does play (Jones too) as the series couldn't be tighter. As an England fan I hope he will never bowl another Ashes ball!
Quite. We all want every team to be able to play its best XI.
However... if McGrath and Jones are unfit who plays instead? For Jones, England have the luxury of being able to pack the batting with Collingwood. And surely Australia must play MacGill - what have they got to lose?
(Yes, I know the answer to that!)
Regardless of who plays, Ponting just has to bring Warne on as early as the 10th or 12th over. Even if it's only for 4 or 5 overs first up. Given his success against Trescothick and Vaughan the other night, and Strauss previously, it just has to be worth a go. It's going to take something special and different to get over the line, and that could set it up.
I like Collingwood, but I don't see him as a test cricketer. He's not enough of a batsmen or bowler to be selected as either.
I know it´s totally unfair but I have been looking back at past articles and blogs going back over the last few months to see who, if anybody, predicted correctly the way the Ashes have unfolded. The answer is no, but in all fairness Stu since the Aussie arrived in England you have been pretty realistic, particularly about Gillespie. However check out April 9th.
Ha - good one Chris. That was one of my first ever posts, and admittedly, I was really going for a reaction, just to see if anyone was listening. I knew far too little about Flintoff and Pietersen at that stage, and of course, wasn't expecting McGrath out, and Gillespie to bowl pies!
Just projecting passed experience on the upcoming tour. It is certainly a different English side aye?!
But I'll cop that little dig on the chin :-)
It was nice to see a young face wearing baggy green for a change.
Tate looks young enough to be Haydons' son.
Baggy Green.
Home for (soon to be) retired test cricketers.
Where is the new tallent to come from ??
I hope he plays, he's a great player and deserves the stage. Besides, I want us to beat Australia's strongest team in the final Test!
Stu, I agree about Warne coming on as an early first change although Strauss is looking a lot more comfortable against him these days (one of my abiding memories of this summer - his century at Old Trafford - he went from zero to hero against Warne then). Another argument for playing an extra bowler, i.e. MacGill.
Hello Stu
I have been commissioned to write a piece on cricket blogs for the 2006 Wisden Almanack.
I'd be very interested to know more about your blog (when you started, why etc). I'd also be very interested to know how you think blogs have changed the way fans follow the game.
If you were able to do a post on this subject, so that those who follow your blog could also comment, I would be very grateful.
I am particularly looking at how blogs have played a part in the two big series of this year (the Ashes and India v Pakistan).
Thanks
Alastair McLellan
I was actually planning take that sort of angle in an Ashes wrap up post, next week, if that is soon enough.
