Australia...you #$%@#! beauty...

Under the Southern Cross I stand, a sprig of wattle in my hand...you know the rest right?

Since I've posted Australia have had two of their best three Test Victories in the past fifteen years (Adelaide 2006/07 against England being number 1) and undoubtedly their best of the post-Warne era. They have retained their number one ranking emphatically with this series win in South Africa and actually go ahead in the six test "series", 3/2.

All those out their who proclaimed with joy Australia's era as over and warned us of the sides inevitable down fall - I hope you enjoyed it. It was a horrible 6 months for us all!

South Africa on the other hand, have once again found new ways to choke. After their brilliant never say die, rise from the Ashes performances to take two tests and the series here in Australia over the summer, they rested well and truly on their laurels and let it all come undone.

For awhile, mental disintegration looked like it would come back to bite Australia on the back side - not anymore. Now we go to England with a side that has gelled and is ready to hang on to those Ashes.

We have aggressive bowlers, classy batsmen and we even saw some attacking fields...All is good again. Now, where is that leg spinner?

Exciting times in Test Cricket

We all know it's the greatest game in the world - but how good has Test Cricket been this week?!

England 6 for 600 after being dismissed a couple of weeks back for 51. Referral fiasco continues and Sarwan is average 100 and plenty on this tour. Sri Lanka make about 1000 runs and don't even take "first innings points", now Australia are doing the unthinkable, and putting South Africa to the sword, on their home soil, after dropping a series to them back in Australia only months ago. (I know Graeme Smith is probably just playing with our heads, and he'll unleash Dumini on Day 5 and they'll probably score 780 in the last innings to win, but hey, I'm going to enjoy it while I can!).

And what about Mighty Mitchell Johnson? 96 not out! Graeme Smith out in the first over! Great stuff - I just hope Peter Siddle and Hilffenhaus are buying him beers, scotches, wine, women and whatever else Mitch fancies, for the remainder of the tour after an effective "hat-trick" left poor Superman stranded four short of his maiden Test Century.

125.3Morkel to Siddle, 1 no ball, edged to second slip ... oh wait, its a no-ball! Morne, Morne, Morne ... he's overstepped again, pitching a good ball to suck a thick outside edge from Siddle which Kallis laps up at second slip, but he's a mile over the crease
125.3Morkel to Siddle, OUT, this one's a legal delivery and Kallis takes another catch! Siddle again doesn't move his feet much as he flirts for another ball leaving him and gives Kallis catching practice
PM Siddle c Kallis b Morkel 9 (26m 15b 2x4 0x6) SR: 60.00
125.4Morkel to Hilfenhaus, OUT, oh I can't believe it! Johnson doesn't get his maiden Test century, while Hilfenhaus gets a golden duck on debut, just feeling for one pitched up and edging smack to de Villiers at third slip
