What better time to resurrect a Test Cricket blog from the wilderness that 5 minutes before the most unpredictable Ashes series on Australian shores at least, in recent memory.
When I started blogging my uneducated opinions on Cricket back in 2005, Australia were #1 in the world with a seemingly unassailable lead. Now, 5 years later, they're 5 rungs lower on that ladder and firmly entrenched in the bottom half of the first tier Test playing nations. Who would've thought?
But what better time to crank up my one eyed, uninformed opinions again? It was easy 5 years ago (except we did lose that little series in England that year of course) when It wasn't a matter of if we'd win but how. How will Warne, or Gilchrist or McGrath save us today. When should we declare in order to leave just enough time bowl out [insert country name here]?
These days we have some majestic Indian batsmen breaking records left right and centre, the world's greatest spinner doesn't play for Australia any more and South Africa have flexed their mussle with an air of arrogance once only reserved for the Australian cricket board, by announcing they might just hold some summer cricket series of their own a not tour Australia, until at least 2020… The view from the STUmpcam has changed. It's going to be an interesting few years.
Where's our next McGrath, Warne, Gilchrist and Waugh? They're there, somewhere. When will the selectors pick them. Will the selectors pick them? Australia will be number 1 again sometime, but when, and how and who or what needs to transpire for that to happen? I can't wait to watch all this happen...
